SOVAS closing Martin Street Office
The South Okanagan Victim Assistance Society (SOVAS) will be closing its offices on June 30th. The Society has offered a variety of services since its inception in 1991 including the Community Based Victim Services Program, the Stopping the Violence Counselling Program and the Men’s Counselling Program. With a changing environment and challenges of managing capacity, the Board has made the difficult decision to close their offices on Martin Street.
In collaboration with community partners, SOVAS will continue to support clients until June 30th. The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General is in process of identifying new contractors in the community to ensure the Community Based Victim and the Stopping the Violence Counselling services will continue.
As for the Men’s Counselling Program, The Access Centre, who recognizes the huge impact that the Men’s Counselling Program has on the people is seeking potential funders to ensure its ongoing success. If anyone is interested in talking about the continuation of the program they should contact the Executive Director of the Access Centre, Katrina McKeown at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Board wishes to thank its community and Ministry partners and, most importantly, its staff for their tireless contributions of knowledge, experience and community awareness of SOVAS over the last 25+ years.
Clients with any concerns should contact the SOVAS office at 250-493-0800
